Martinican photographer photographer Robert Charlotte has been photographer-in-residence of Ghana’s first photo festival – Nuku Photo Festival for the past month. Supported by Alliance Française d’Accra, Institut Français – Ghana, Fondation Clément, and the Embassy of France in Accra, he has been developing a new body of work in the framework of the project “Transatlantic artistic dialogues: Caribbean - West Africa”. The opening of his concluding exhibition takes place at Alliance Française on 20 September 2018 at 18:30.
Robert Charlotte was born in Martinique in 1966. He focuses on producing portraits, which powerfully express the collective history of places and individual trajectories, especially in the Caribbean. His residency at the Nuku Photo Festival is his first stay in Africa.
“In this photographic project, through portraits, places visited or places of creation, I try to live this buried feeling of intimacy; I try to take, see, feel and bring to life this transatlantic dialogue to finally envisage, with strength and determination, a lucid and serene future,” says Robert Charlotte.
